The Criminalistics Methods Lab contains professional equipment from the likes of Nikon, Thermo-Nicolet, and Foster and Freeman that will help develop your expertise in the major areas of non-destructive analysis of physical evidence taken from crime scenes.
The laboratory holds a full range of equipment to visualise, record and compare latent fingerprints, as well as infra-red and Raman spectroscopy equipment which can be used for the identification and testing of illicit substances or paint. Filtered Light Analysis instruments are used for ink comparison or validation of questioned evidential documents and you will also undertake tool-mark and footwear analysis. In addition you will use high power microscopes, complete with video cameras and warming stages, to record and compare samples of glass from a range of crime scenes.
